Alarm System Registration

  1. All alarm systems must be registered with the Franklin Lakes Police Department. Fill out the alarm registration forms and email to Ariane Hertenstein or pick a packet up at the Police Department.
  2. Audible Alarm Systems:  All audible alarms must be equipped with a time relay or battery to limit the sounding of an alarm to 15 minutes or less with an automatic reset mechanism.  A copy of the Borough Ordinance is available upon request at the Borough Hall.
  3. Accidental Alarm Activation's or tests:  Upon receipt of your completed Alarm Registration form you will be given a cancellation code.  If your alarm system accidentally activates call the Franklin Lakes Police Department at 891-3131 within one minute of the activation and give your name, address, and cancellation code number and we will cancel police response.  If  you wish to test your alarm, please phone us prior to doing so giving the proper information.
NOTE: FOR YOUR PROTECTION WE WILL ONLY CANCEL OUR RESPONSE UPON RECEIPT OF THE PROPER CANCELLATION CODE NUMBER.
  4. False Alarms:  Due to the numerous false alarms to which we respond on a daily basis, Borough Ordinance 4-4 provides that for the first and second false alarms in any given calendar year, a warning may be issued; for the third and subsequent false alarms, in the same calendar year, summonses will be issued.  For details regarding penalties incurred by the summonses you may call the Violations Bureau at 891-5480.
  5. You are also subject to a Warning and/or Summons if you do not comply with the above regulations for registering your alarm and/or non-compliance with any of the above regulations.
  6. Panic, Hold Up, Silent, Duress or Medical Alarms:  It is the policy of the Franklin Lakes Police Department to try and gain access to the home or business if a panic, hold up, silent, duress or medical alarm is received and there is no response at the door.  Our first attempt to gain access is through an emergency contact.  If no contact is made our next attempt to gain access is  by use of force either through a door or a window.
