Coaching and Volunteer Requirements
If you are interested in coaching your child, please indicate on the registration form under special comments or in request box. The names will then be forwarded to the program director of that age group.
Mandatory Coaching Requirements:
Every adult volunteer in Franklin Lakes who wishes to work with minors must submit to a Criminal History Background Check. Borough ordinance and Recreation and Parks Department rule require the following mandatory requirements be met before you start coaching:

Every adult volunteer in Franklin Lakes who wishes to work with minors must submit to a Criminal History Background Check. Borough ordinance and Recreation and Parks Department rule require the following mandatory requirements be met before you start coaching:
- Complete the Coaches Code of Conduct Form.
- Complete a Criminal Background Check Form to be done by the Franklin Lakes Recreation and Parks Department.
- Coaches and volunteers attend and satisfactorily complete a three hour nationally recognized training clinic (Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y clinic).
- Take the free HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports course. HEADS UP to Youth Sports is a free, online course available to coaches, parents, sports officials, athletic trainers, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion.
- Complete the child abuse protection training. Please click here here for course.

Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic
The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth) is a three-hour program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs" (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the "Little League Law" (2A:62A-6 et. seq.).
