Zoning Board Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What do I need to do to go to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for a variance?

You need to submit three copies of the plan with a Soil Moving Permit Application and fees or a check for $1,000 if soil moving is not required. The Zoning Officer and the Engineer will review the plan. The Zoning Officer will provide a denial to the Zoning Board Clerk. The Zoning Board Clerk has 21 days to review the application, give comments and deem the application complete. The Engineer will provide a letter to the Board when the application is ready to be scheduled. The Zoning Board Clerk will provide a Notice of Scheduling to the applicant or their representative with all the information required for the packets for the Board file, the Board Attorney and the Board itself.

When can I start my project?

If the Board approves the application, at the next meeting, which is one month from then, the resolution will be prepared and approved by the Board. The resolution will be sent to the applicant or their representative, the Construction Official, the Tax Assessor, the Engineer and the Zoning Board Clerk. At that time, you can go to the Building Department and fill out the forms required for your Building Permit.
