Diwali Ceremony
From Community Director
On Friday, October 24, the Borough of Franklin Lakes proudly celebrated its first annual Community Diwali Lighting Ceremony, hosted in partnership with residents Saira Sandhi and Shani Parekh.
Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, is a cherished tradition that honors the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
During the ceremony, Mayor Charles J.X. Kahwaty invited children to participate in the symbolic lighting of the Diya, representing the spreading of light, love, and hope throughout our community.
This family-friendly celebration was filled with vibrant cultural dances, traditional Indian cuisine, and engaging craft activities for children. It was a beautiful evening of unity and joy — a time for neighbors and friends to come together, share in the spirit of Diwali, and brighten the season with warmth and togetherness.
