Arbor Day Tree Plantings

From Shade Tree Commission
The Franklin Lakes Shade Tree Commission recognized Arbor Day on April 26, 2024 with the planting of two beautiful oak trees near the bocce court at McBride Field that were donated to the Borough.   Columbia Bank donated and planted one of the oak trees and longtime resident Tanya Gatti and her sons Eric, Christian, and Ryan, donated and planted a second oak tree as a memorial to Robert Gatti, Tanya's husband and the boys’ father, who lost his battle to cancer in April 2023. Robert loved to spend many happy days playing bocce at the court on McBride Field.

The Borough of Franklin Lakes and the Shade Tree Commission thank Columbia Bank and the Gatti family and their generous donations.

Arbor Day, which literally translates to “tree” day, is a holiday that celebrates the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees. For centuries, communities spanning the globe have celebrated Arbor Day. Maintaining the Borough’s tree canopy is extremely important for our community. Trees are beautiful but they offer substantial benefits such as soil retention, water management, and energy savings with shade. Trees have great economic value keeping our Borough aesthetically superior thereby increasing the value of homes.
