Easing the Excess of Reusable Bags by Helping Food Banks
From Environmental Commission
Many residents have their food delivered from their favorite grocery stores. It is very convenient, saves driving, and time. With the prohibition of single use plastic bags, food deliveries now come in reusable bags that cannot be returned to the grocery store. That means, of course, that there is a surplus of reusable bags with no purpose. The Environmental Commission has learned that food banks accept gently used bags for packaging. In fact, it would be a bonus to them in their work to supply food to the needy.
Local food banks accepting reusable bags:
- Food Bank of New Jersey
- Center for Food Action
- CUMAC - the easiest choice! The Paterson food bank to which we deliver fresh vegetables from the Franklin Lakes Community Garden.
The Environmental Commission will accept reusable bags from residents in a drop box in the foyer at Borough Hall.
