Mulching Around Trees
Mulching around and under trees is only recommended on top of the roots. The trunk of the tree should be left free and clear of any mulch. It is important that the trunk does not stay wet, which would be the case if mulch goes up to the tree trunk. The tree might rot otherwise. Homeowners should go around and inspect their trees, especially if the gardener or lawn service did the mulching. Sometimes people are not aware mistakes are being made. Homeowners should request that their landscapers mulch trees correctly. If trees are surrounded by lawn, care should be taken not to damage the roots of trees when cutting the grass.
