Message From Mayor Bivona

The Borough of Franklin Lakes is very fortunate to have an incredible group of men and women that comprise our Police Department and keep us safe, led by Chief Pezzuti. They are fully staffed, trained, accredited and equipped to do their job to protect our town. The most important function of local government is to keep its residents safe, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Over many years, the one area of concern with regard to crime in our community and surrounding towns has been car thefts. The Chief and I have sent out countless emails, directives and even posted signs to ask residents to lock their cars and homes. We do this to remind people that we need your help to fully protect our community.

The cars stolen are virtually always left in the driveway with the key fob inside the unlocked car. Once inside the car, theft perpetrators can then open the garage doors, and possibly the interior of the home. This activity can take seconds and happen anytime of the day or night.

Given that the Borough of Franklin Lakes has about 65 miles of roads, 4,000 households and maybe 10,000-plus cars, it is impossible to fully protect our community without your help. Locking our cars and homes is essential to making Franklin Lakes a safer community.

Our police are fully staffed and patrol our roads throughout the day and night. They have been successful in the past at apprehending car thieves. We have stepped up patrols, and purchased new equipment to help us with this area of concern. Franklin Lakes is one of the safest towns in the region, a credit to our police. Let’s keep it that way and make it even safer by locking our cars and homes.

Please call our Police Department day or night, to report any suspicious vehicles or activities at 201 891-3131. Also, feel free to stop by the Police Department to talk to our police about areas of safety that concern you. They are open 24/7 which means you can call or stop by at any time if you have concerns. Of course, you can also call me with issues or concerns because my chief responsibility is public safety.
