Clean Up Day Thank You

From the Environmental Commission and Community Director
“Franklin Lakes Is Sparkling” commented a happy resident on Saturday, May 14, thanks to the hundred plus volunteers who showed up for the annual Clean Up Day. Yellow shirts were everywhere, carrying special biodegradable bags to contain the trash they collected. The photos tell it all. Small children through high school students, parents and concerned residents scoured the woods, streets and trails the whole morning leaving a mountain of bags for the Franklin Lakes DPW to collect. A special thanks to the Ramsey Outdoor employees at the Nature Preserve who rowed the circumference of the lake pulling debris from the water.

The Clean Up could not have taken place without the support of: the Franklin Lakes Police Department, which kept us safe; the Franklin Lakes Fire Department; Mayor Bivona, who visited each site to cheer on the volunteers; the Recreation and Parks Department which sorted and prepared the shirts, bags and pick-up equipment; and Franklin Lakes Recycling Coordinator Nancy Durkin.

Clean Up Day is supported by New Jersey’s Clean Communities Council, which encourages all municipalities to take pride in their towns by devoting one day to “cleaning up.” Thank you Franklin Lakes residents for heeding the call. See you next year!
