Camera Registration Program - Voluntary

The Franklin Lakes Police Department implemented a Voluntary Camera Registration Program to assist officers in obtaining video footage more efficiently. Our residents and business are our biggest assets. They are the eyes and ears of the neighborhood. Officers spend valuable time canvassing neighborhoods searching for homes that may have captured events on their camera systems. Having information on camera systems will expedite the process and facilitate the dissemination of intelligence to our officers and law enforcement partners.

Our agency created this resource to assist officers investigating crimes that occurred in our Borough. Surveillance footage assists police in gathering accurate and actionable intelligence that can increase our efficiency in deployment of resources and assets to solve crimes. Intelligence gathered from residential and business surveillance cameras is crucial for the apprehension and prosecution of offenders. Locations of surveillance camera assets in the Borough will enable officers to request footage quickly and save valuable time.

Patrol vehicles are equipped with mobile data terminals and software that will have registered surveillance system locations available to patrol officers. The program is voluntary. Police officers will not have access to your cameras. The program allows officers to contact homeowners and business owners quickly using the registration database. The information provided to the Franklin Lakes Police Department regarding your camera system will be for official use only.
