Annual Clean Up Day
From Environmental Commission
The Franklin Lakes Environmental Commission would like to thank all the students, parents and residents who helped in the annual Borough cleanup day. It was a beautiful sunny day, for which we are immensely grateful, and our lively yellow-shirted volunteers used the nice weather to scour the areas around McBride Field and the Borough's Tennis Courts. You can feel it! The town is sparkling.
The Commission owes special thanks to Dina Robinson and the Recreation Department for preparing the cleanup materials, the shirts, and especially - well, of course, the Ice Cream truck. After several hours of tramping through the dirt and the woods, everyone deserved the flavored ice as a reward for their hard work.
The hundred plus students represented all the elementary schools - High Mountain, Colonial Road and Woodside Avenue schools, Franklin Avenue Middle School, (FAMS) and Ramapo Regional High School. We are especially indebted to the staffs, teachers and administrative help, of all our schools for making their students aware of this special day and for registering their students.
We are also aware that Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops were doing their part to make our town clean and beautiful. It is part of their pledge as Scouts and we welcome their dedication to this important task.
Our gratitude would not be complete unless we included our hard-working DPW crew. They were delivering supplies at 8 AM, checking the debris as it was dropped off in special compostable bags throughout the morning, and, finally, cheerfully collecting it and carting it away. They were as important to the task as the students.
As we move into another spring, summer and fall of outdoor activities, let's try to remember how stunning our town is and how it deserves our help in keeping it clean and free from debris. We want to thank, in advance, every resident for displaying the energy it showed last Saturday on our Cleanup Day. View Photo Album.
