Asbestos Remediation at Parsons Pond Road Development
Message from the Mayor
Many residents have reached out to me and other Borough officials with concerns about the asbestos remediation that is ongoing at the development on Parsons Pond Road. As Mayor and fellow resident, I share your concern.
We all want confirmation that every possible safety measure has been implemented. The permitting process and oversight of the asbestos remediation is controlled by the State or, more specifically, the New Jersey Department of Labor, which is where we need to focus our inquiries.
Toward that end, we have been reaching out by phone and email to the Department of Labor requesting copies of plans, applications and inspection reports (among other things) and have requested that the Department attend a public Question and Answer session here in Franklin Lakes. I have also met with State Assemblyman Chris DePhillips requesting his immediate follow up with the Department of Labor.
This information is critical and we will continue to push for answers and to put political pressure as needed to assure that the well-being of our residents is the highest priority. As always, I remain available to discuss this further by phone (201-891-4000, ext. 1203) and email (mayor@franklinlakes.org) as information becomes available. We will keep you informed so that your concerns are properly addressed.
