Our hearts go out to all those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Emergency services are not able to reach victims and are relying heavily on residents to support the community during this time. Neighbors Helping Neighbors. In many areas there is no power, landline phones, cell phones or internet. Local Emergency Management and FEMA are relying on FCC licensed amateur radio operators equipped with portable power to assist in emergency coordination. What would you do in that situation?
Are you prepared to handle an emergency and help your family and your neighbors? Make the time to attend free training and learn how you can be prepared for disaster emergencies
Emergency Procedures Training:
Bergen County offers CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training. CERT training provides residents with formal classroom basic training in emergency procedures that allow residents to help their families and neighbors before, during and after a disaster. CERT training is held on Thursday evenings for approximately two and one half hours for nine weeks. Next session begins October 5, 2017 at the East Rutherford Civic Center. If you are not able to attend all classes, you may make it up a class in a future session to complete training. Click here for more information on upcoming classes.
Communication Training:
Franklin Lakes Office of Emergency Management offers free training sessions and administers FCC radio communications license testing. All residents passing the test are issued radio equipment and training to become FCC Licensed Amateur Radio Communications Volunteers.
