Know The Rules - Recycle Right
From Recycling Coordinator and Environmental Commission
Recycling Contamination 101
Recycling Contamination is anything that finds its way into a recycling bin that does not belong there. The issue of recycling contamination has caused much of what we WANT to recycle and may have PREVIOUSLY PUT INTO RECYCLING can no longer be recycled.
We must learn how to keep contamination out of our recycling bins in order for it to be picked up and recycled. If it is contaminated, our hard efforts will end up in the LANDFILL.
Know The Rules - Recycle Right
Each week the Franklin Lakes Recycling Coordinator and the Environmental Commission will give residents the updated recycling rules to follow. If you have question, you can search on the www.franklinlakes.org/gr (Garbage and Recycling page) or contact Nancy Durkin.
Rule #1 - No plastic bags, no clam shell containers even if they have a #1 on the bottom.
Rule #2 - Recycle ONLY plastic containers with 1, 2, or 5. Make sure the containers are clean of any food contamination.
Rule #3 - Pizza boxes with oil stains are not recyclable. If the top of the pizza box is free of oil stains or cheese, you can cut it off and recycle the top. The bottom of the box would go in the garbage.
