The Old Stone Music and Coffee House

The Old Stone Music and Coffee House – Join us on Friday, June 7th, at The Old Stone to enjoy a great concert by The Hendersons. They’ve appeared a number of times at The Old Stone and always bring a great set list from the 50’s to the present day! As always, doors open at 7:30. Tiny Tots Mini-Mester: $6/member $7/ non-member; May 30th and June 6th 10:30am-11:30am

We welcome a new generation of budding naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for this “grown-up-and-me” style program. We will read books, explore outside, and learn about nature in age-appropriate ways for littles!

This program is geared to children 18 months to 3.5 years.

Poisonous Plants – The Sinister Garden Walk $8/member, $10/non-member; June 1st at 10am

Following the footprint of Lorrimer Sanctuary’s past “Sinister Garden”, we’ll be observing and learning to recognize some of NJ’s poisonous plants. From common garden weeds to well-known ornamental plants to native forest plants, this walk features something for everyone! Head out on a guided tour through our trails, where you’ll encounter a variety of fascinating poisonous plants that have. Our knowledgeable staff will share anecdotes and cautionary tales about these cool (and occasionally sinister!) plants. Discover the secrets behind well-known plants like Foxglove, Bleeding Heart, and Nightshade as well as their less well-known peers! Learn about their toxic properties, historical uses, the myths and legends surrounding them, and their effects on local wildlife. This event is perfect for nature enthusiasts of all ages! Don’t miss out on this unique chance to explore the darker side of the botanical world. This is not a drop-off program. Any children must be accompanied by an adult.

Nature Yoga for Little Wanderers: $ 40; May 31st, June 7th,  June 14th 9:30 am

60 minutes of yoga, seamlessly blended with mindful exploration in nature for children 2-5 years accompanied with a grown up. Our session will start with a tune-in and breathwork on our mats. Next, we will explore the nature trails through guided, sensory activities and thematic yoga poses. Each session will conclude with an opportunity for whole group connection and a peaceful savasana. Bring water and a yoga mat (beach towel if you do not have a mat). Children of all abilities and disabilities are encouraged to join!

Nature Infused Cocktail Workshop: $35/member $40/non-member; June 5th at 6:30pm

Learn the art of infusion with natural ingredients to create a take-home creation. Join us for an adult only program focused on infusing nature into your favorite adult beverages. We’ll be using some locally sourced native plants and popular craft cocktail embellishments. Each participant will craft two take-home infusions to pair with their favorite spirits and to share with friends and family! Please note, alcohol is not provided at this workshop. This is an indoor event. Adult only.

Birds and Brews Family Fun Day at Fort Nonsense Brewing: $10/wristband June 8th, 1pm-5pm Randolph, NJ

Come join us at Fort Nonsense Brewing Company for a day of fun for the whole family. Enjoy a variety of activities focused on giving you a taste of nature camp fun while sipping delicious brews.

Beyond Birding | The Interconnectedness of Nature | Guided Walk: Free; June 12th at 9:30am at Ramapo Valley County Reservation, Mahwah

The thrum of a rufous-throated hummingbird as it dips into a cardinal flower; the incessant song of a red-eyed vireo as it balances the boughs of an oak tree. Discover how our region’s migrating and nesting birds rely on native species like these for food, shelter, and so much more! 

Expand your trail knowledge during this informative guided walk with Mary Birrer, Teacher Naturalist at NJ Audubon’s Lorrimer Sanctuary. On this approximately 2-mile walk through varying habitats, Mary will offer her expertise through a naturalist’s lens; explaining the relationships between plant communities and the birds that rely on them and observing (and identifying!) the sights and sounds of the forest. 

Come prepared with an appetite for knowledge...and appropriate footwear!

Fall Break at Lorrimer Sanctuary: $65; Kindergarten to 3rd grade, November 7th and 8th  9am-1pm

Join us for a fun-filled Fall Break at Lorrimer Sanctuary – a perfect way to enjoy the autumn season with outdoor activities and nature. Get ready for exciting outdoor activities, nature walks, and hands-on experiences for kids in kindergarten to 3rd grade. Explore the wonders of the sanctuary, learn about local wildlife, and make new friends in a safe and welcoming environment. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to create lasting memories this fall break!

This program is geared for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade (roughly 5y-9y). This program will take place mainly outdoors and participants should dress appropriately for weather conditions including closed-toed shoes. Participants should bring a lunch and reusable water bottle.
