The daily volume of sewage for a residential dwelling is calculated based on the number of bedrooms. The volume for bedroom number one 200 gallons per day. For each additional bedroom there is an additional 150 gallons added to the total.
Are garbage disposals permitted with a septic system?
Septic systems that serve dwellings with garbage disposals must be designed with 50% additional septic tank volume and 25% more disposal square footage.
Do I need a permit to repair my septic tank?
Yes. All repairs, including lids, risers and baffles must be permitted by the Board of Health.
What is required for septic systems when I sell my house?
N.J.A.C. 7:9A, the rule for septic systems, requires that cesspools be replaced at the time of home sales. This requirement does not apply to wastewater disposal systems which, by definition, do not include cesspools. Seepage pit systems or older traditional septic systems that do not meet current standards are not requireed by the rule to be upgraded.
